Licence to Use or Handle a Radioactive Substance (Section 28)

Applicable to individuals that use Radioactive Sources for the purposes of: Borehole Logging; Nuclear Medicine Technologists & Specialists; Medical Oncologists; Industrial Radiography (NDT); Nuclear Moisture/Density Meters; Radiation Gauges; Unsealed Substances (Type B & C Laboratories); Sources for Calibration & Education; Install, Maintain & Manufacture Sources; Medical Physicist/Engineers/Technicians (Sealed Sources)’ Veterinarians/Staff using I-131 for Therapy.

Licence to Operate an Ionising Radiation Apparatus (Section 31)

Applicable to individuals that use X-Ray Apparatus for the purposes of: Medical, Dental, Chiropractic, & Veterinary diagnostic x-ray; Bone Densitometry (DEXA); Medical Physicist/Engineers/Technicians; Borehole Logging; Industrial Radiography (NDT); X-ray analysis (XRD); XRF analysers (X-ray tube); Installers of x-ray apparatus.

Licence to Possess a Radiation Source (Section 33A)

Under the Radiation Protection & Control Act 1982, a licence to possess a radiation source and/or applications to register are to be submitted by owners of registrable irradiating apparatus; registrable sealed radioactive sources, and/or registrable premises they have, or plan to have, possession of in South Australia over the coming year.

All owners of Ionising Radiation Apparatus are required to have a Licence to Possess a Radiation Source (an apparatus). Note that an owner can be an individual, a group of individuals or a business.

Accreditation as a Compliance Tester (Section 33B)

Applicable to individuals to become Accredited to perform Compliance Testing in South Australia for Dental, Medical, Veterinary and/or Chiropractic X-Ray Apparatus.
